The soundtrack, while excellent in both games, is better in ME1. While MEC's mechanics are smoother, they also detract slightly from immersion. Between the soundtrack, art style and visuals, ME1 makes me feel more. What do you think?Įdit: Grammar and choice of words so as not to misquote anyone.įor some reason, MEC's atmosphere, while better than most games, just doesn't hold up to ME1. I think it improves on ME1 in almost every way. TL DR: A lot of people don't like MEC compared to ME1. Anyway, I'd like to know what you all think about how MEC compares to ME1? Not perfect, no game is perfect, but it ranks up in my top five for sure. The only legit gripes I have? That sometimes running from point to point (For the various collectibles, for example) can sometimes feel a little tedious, so I'll fast travel instead and having try to escape KSec when I'm the middle of something (Like looking for those collectibles, again) can be a bit frustrating, especially in The View where there are so many of them.Īpart from that, this game is fucking incredible to me. The reviews have been a little kinder, it's got a mixed to positive overall opinion, but the general consensus does intrigue me. They're nuanced (even if a lot of the characters are fairly flat, but not offensively so) and detailed.ĭespite all of this though, all the ways in which I think MEC took the best parts of ME1, built upon them, fixed the problems ME1 had and gave a fairly distinct game experience, I've seen disparaging opinions of MEC when compared to ME1. They're not cinematic masterpieces, but they capture the story in those little moments perfectly. Yes the story is still very short, but it feels much meatier, the semi-open world is beautiful (if not a little empty, sometimes) and fun to explore in the various ways, especially when you discover each location for the first time. Personally, when I played ME1, I accepted that it was a great concept with a few character flaws (The linear level progression, the super short story and I wasn't very fond of the cel-shaded cutscenes), but playing MEC, it took everything that I enjoyed about ME1 and built upon it to create a more complete product. However, in the year since MEC has been out, I can see that a lot of people don't share my enthusiasm. Remembering what I loved about ME1 and experiencing a fresh perspective in MEC with all of the new additions, meant that ME1 was no longer one of my favourite games. It was one of my legitimately favourite games for years.ĭear Lord, I was blown away.
I'd like to pose a question to everyone here, but let me preface it by saying that I absolutely love the original Mirror's Edge.
